Protesters Interrupt Speech

India’s been titled the “world’s largest democracy.” There are times when that’s a marvel to see and there times when it’s astonishing that it survives at all. One such time was this week. Because the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, ESL Narasimhan, was giving a speech in the State’s legislature to both the upper and lower houses. Members of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) party, who campaign for a free Telangana State, decided to protest, interrupting his shortened speech.

A Shortened Speech From Governor ESL Narasimhan, Andhra Pradesh

Their protest to his shortened speech involved:

  • Waving placards
  • Tearing up copies of his speech
  • Throwing torn speech copies at the Governor
  • Attempting to seize his speech and,
  • Trying to pull out the microphone

Truncated Speech Delivered In 15 Minutes

With all the protests going on it’s no small wonder that Governor ESL Narasimhan managed to finish any of his speech at all. In fact he spoke for some 15 minutes. Since he used a quick time speaking technique, he hastily dropped many of the passages from his 40-page speech. And, it was at this stage that his personal security team bustled him away, unhurt.

We’ve looked before at a short speech from Rahul Gandhi. But that was 28 minutes long. So, this shortened speech from the Governor really is in a class of its own. And, elsewhere in Malaysia, we talked about the Sabah speech sensation in their State Assembly. On that occasion the budget winding-up speech was rudely interrupted. But, somehow¬†Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai managed to finish his speech.
