It’s a struggle to say anything useful or informative about the rambling Gaddafi speeches recently in Tripoli. That’s because his past record suggests long, rambling, incoherent speeches addressed to a sycophantic clan audience. And, apparently, not that much is different now. But, perhaps they are even more rambling today.
His recent speeches, one given from underneath an umbrella sitting in a car and another given over a telephone line, veering from extremely short to over an hour in length have stretched the meaning of incoherent. Certainly neither location smacks of a half-decent public speaking location.
It’s fair to say that his speeches reveal a man who’s lost the plot. And it’s not often that we get to say that about a speaker. More typically we have to consider what not to say in your speech. Or, perhaps we look at public speaking gobbledygook, and how some speakers just love it. However, when it comes to long-winded speakers, Colonel Gaddafi speeches put him in good company.
Speeches aside, the situation remains perilous.
One bright spark has put together a medley of a Gaddafi ranting speech to hip-hop music in this short video. It’s meant to lighten the mood…but the resultant feeling is that his public speaking only reinforces his menace and danger.
