Mariah Carey learned a hard lesson about public speaking this week. Because this Mariah Carey speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival was marred by her having one too many glasses of champagne while she waited for the awards. Still, it’s not the first time that someone has done this. And, it probably won’t be the last time.
Winning the award for best breakthrough actress for her role in “Precious”, was some considerable achievement. But, her speech wasn’t. Still, she knew that she’d made a small mistake and immediately explained the situation. Well done! Do you think that she didn’t know she would win…so she was simply partying? Or, alternatively did she know about her win beforehand and she was getting her celebration in early? It’s not worth a conspiracy. But it’s worth a thought how these events are stage-managed.
Bubbles Got To Mariah Carey Speech
However, the message for anyone who might need to make a speech during an event is simple. Just lay off the champagne (or other tipple) until it’s very safe to assume that your public speaking services aren’t needed! And if anyone still insists that you give a speech when you have had one or two, politely demur and get well away from the microphone. And that’s probably easier said than done! Because you can give an incoherent acceptance speech without too much thought. So, why risk it?
