It shouldn't come as a surprise, but when you aim to succeed as a conference speaker then you want to be an enthusiastic speaker. So, when you are all set for your next speech, how much time do you give to your mood? It's an intriguing point because when you get in the right mood for your speech, you can really deliver a great performance.

When You Want to Succeed as a Public Speaker, be enthusiastic.
Let's recall a Prime Minister Keir Starmer speech that he gave in the garden behind 10 Downing Street during the summer.
At the time, just about every journalist called it a miserable speech, since it was dispiriting, gloomy and thoroughly wretched.
It was miles from your typical leadership speech.
Be an Enthusiastic Speaker and Win
In contrast, we spotted the recent performance of Elon Musk on the podium with President Trump. That speech shouted good mood and joy.
And yesterday we spotted a Tucker Carlson speech in Georgia, which again enthused good mood and contentment.
Yes, we agree that these individuals are very different characters, with very different political outlooks. But if you are miserable when you give your speech, then you'll get a different result to the one you aimed for.
I'd also venture to suggest that the objectives that the respective speakers set for their speeches were met in the USA, but not in London SW1.
Enthusiasm Equals Success
Because if you want to achieve something with your audience, then you want their cooperation and full engagement. Typically you get that by not being dull and miserable.
You want to be an enthusiastic speaker.
Aim to Be an Enthusiastic Speaker and Get More from Public Speaking
Your audience will respond to your enthusiasm for the subject. So it really does pay to be as enthusiastic as possible for your own conference speech or podium performance.
- 1Be enthusiastic and positive about your subject, your audience and your role as a communicator.
- 2Aim to be comfortable in your stance, speaking position and with the lighting.
- 3Know your speech. You probably don't know it off by heart because very few speakers really do. But, know the flow, the sections and the critical pause points.
- 4Be fully rehearsed.
- 5Dress the part and dress for power. Note how not everyone needs a suit and tie combination to feel good.
