A Nigel Owens farming speech in Cardiff firmly blew the whistle on Welsh politicians in the Assembly, the Senedd.
It's true that Nigel has performed on a bigger stage than the one he used this week. Indeed as an elite Rugby Union referee, until his retirement in 2020, he refereed at all the major world class rugby events…and most of the stadia. So, he's no stranger to rules and he's taken exception to the latest set of rule changes originating in the Welsh Senedd.
Actually "originating" is probably a stretch as the Welsh government appears to mimic the policies of several European Union governments who actively loathe their own farmers. It's very odd.
However the No Farmers No Food campaign, organised to some degree by James Melville, aims to tackle the Senedd and stop their overreach in its tracks. Certainly it's clear that the farmers have to act before the local politicians and councillors decimate the Welsh farming industry.
Nigel spoke briefly, behind a lectern, with plenty of passion for the occasion. And his audience appreciated his presence and his words.
Nigel Owens Farming Speech Takes Charge
In 2015 I was very privileged to referee the World Cup Final at Twickenham. The proudest moment of my career.
But today I'm even prouder to come and speak in front of good, decent people.
This Nigel Owens farming speech very pointedly showed the red card to the foolish administrators in the Cardiff Senedd who clearly have lost touch with all reality.
I do it becasues I care. I'm passionate about the industry that we're in. Not just for our way of life. But without farmers there's no food. There can be no Six Nations game in Cardiff here next Saturday against France if there's no referee. But there's no food on the table if there's no farmers.
We wish the campaign all the best and trust they'll kick these ridiculous plans into touch.
