  • WEF Conference Themes Aim at a New World Order

The annual World Economic Forum jamboree starts this week in Davos, Switzerland to its usual fanfare in the legacy media. Certainly it's an odd private members club that really isn't a supra-national body at all. However, as a networking organisation, headed by Klaus Schwab, it's quite sinister and odd. But it's the WEF conference themes that we're interested in right now.

World Economic Forum (WEF) Conference Themes in 2024 Point to a New World Order

The WEF conference themes for this year's, 2024, event all point to a new world order. Of course, that's probably not a new world order of our choice or design. But an order that's imposed and directed. Well. that's certainly the feeling you can get when you read their material.

There appear to be four main conference themes for this year's Davos event.

Conference Themes For Davos, 2024

Achieving Security and Cooperation in a Fractured World

Creating Growth and Jobs for a New Era

Artificial Intelligence as a Driving Force for the Economy and Society

A Long-Term Strategy for Climate, Nature and Energy

All things considered, these conference themes are broad and expansive enough to serve the purpose of the conference organisers. That is, they allow all the various speeches, presentations, question sessions and panel discussions to share enough to be useful, engaging and thought-provoking.

In that area these conference themes are little different to any other big conference. Because themes are useful. Any conference organiser would agree.

What is different is the scope of the themes. And what is certainly very different  are the titles of the events that sit within the conference themes. For example...

Conference Theme: Achieving Security and Cooperation in a Fractured World

Securing an Insecure World

Persistent conflict, intensifying climate crises, a fragile global economy and the potential risks of new technologies are creating a complex global security environment.

The Business Case for EU Enlargement

Nearly 20 years after the European Union’s "big bang" enlargement in 2004, the bloc's long-stalled ambition to accept new members has experienced a striking revival.

Protecting Democracy against Bots and Plots

Elections in 2024 will have an impact on a combined population of over 4 billion people around the world. As the adoption of generative AI ramps up, so do the opportunity and risk exploited by malicious actors seeking to instill distrust in democratic institutions.

Middle East Conflict: What Is the Endgame?

In light of the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East, how can the region navigate this turbulent conflict, balance the underlying geopolitical dynamics and work towards detente in the short term?

So this mix of powerful, well-connected politicians, business people and assorted hangers-on plus these heavyweight conference themes make this private members club conference very heavy! But we're free, for the moment, to make up our own minds.

How You Can Make Your Conference More Engaging with Conference Themes

Most of us aren't going to the WEF conference in Davos this year. But you might well have the responsibility of organising this year's sales conference or quality improvement event. In which case, you shouldn't underestimate how one or several conference themes will help you.

  1. 1
Make it memorable. Themes help your conference audience to remember everyone's presentations. And when your conference audience only retains some 10% of what is presented, that’s important.
  2. 2
Keep it simple. Your conference theme should be both simple and consistent. The simplicity is critical for memory. Because you don’t want your audience struggling with complexity at this stage of the event. Consistency is also important. Can you apply the theme across a range of speeches and/ or presentations?
  3. 3
Be practical. Your theme should evoke practicality and purpose. If it has these qualities it will be familiar to your audience and prove more meaningful.
  4. 4
Be thorough. There is no need to struggle for ideas when thinking of a theme for your event. There are many workable approaches to getting it right. You should talk to the sales director or the manufacturing director. If all else fails, then "Putting Customers First" always works!
  5. 5
Consider the objective. As you finalise your theme(s) you should recall the purpose for your conference. You want to achieve something. It's true that you might not want a new world order, but you do want to challenge ideas or opinions. Or, you might want to change something that your conference delegates do. Your theme should help you in your purpose.
