  • Duke Graduate PowerPoint Presentation Goes Viral

Recent Duke University graduate Karen Owen has created the net’s most popular PowerPoint presentation. Not for Karen a graduate PowerPoint presentation that outlined her skills and achievements for a future employer.

Oh no. Karen’s PowerPoint presentation outlined an altogether different set of on-campus achievements, most of them secured in the bedrooms and locker rooms of the men’s lacrosse team. An altogether bigger proposition.

Until now, no studies have succeeded in developing a methodology for quantifying and ranking these so-called horizontal academics.

Her 42 slide presentation is titled, An Education Beyond the Classroom: Excelling in the Realm of Horizontal Academics”. She goes into quite some detail and doesn’t spare the blushes, length or girth of her subjects. But, she’s also very funny.

It was on the cab ride back that I discovered he was rude, Canadian, and spoke mostly in French.

Like all of these things, of course, the graduate PowerPoint presentation started off being e-mailed around her friends. However, what started off as a circular for friends has now become a global circulation.

Some error. Because now her presentation has gone viral.

I regret it with all my heart.

And, because of the content, that must worry Karen somewhat. A Duke University spokesman said officials were “reaching out to those who’ve been affected by this incident”.

Our foremost concern is to provide for the well-being of our students, and to respect their privacy

I’ll leave you to find out more about her “experiences” elsewhere. And yes, you don’t need to look very far for this particular Duke graduate PowerPoint presentation. But let’s be positive. She does show a remarkable affinity for PowerPoint graph techniques. And Karen does have a memorable presentation content technique. In fact it’s unique. Albeit her presentation style does suggest PowerPoint text overload.
