PRESENTATION SKILLS TIPS getting the right points across

Getting the right number of points across to your audience is made easier when you focus on a very limited number of points. Too many, and you run the risk of audience exhaustion combined with mental fatigue. Too few, and you run the risk of not being asked back! We have listed some of the main presentation skills tips this month.

Presentation Points

The scenario might differ slightly from place to place, but the basics are familiar to us all – in the board room at work you have taken a deep breath as your presenter outlined their presentation structure and agenda.

Silently you might wonder how they will cover such a mass of content, explore so much ground or make so many points before lunch.

And as they point to another set of figures on the PowerPoint slide you sense the drift.

A well made point

With a consistent theme to your presentation you should aim for some 3 or 4 main points in an effective presentation.

Yes, sub-points are appropriate. But extensive bullet points will lead into the long grass.

Your main points should provide linkage from your introduction through the middle content and to your conclusion – embracing the theme as you go.

Each point, succinctly made, should then be emphasised for further clarity at each juncture in the presentation.

And finally, at the conclusion, you should aim to summarise the points again.

You can identify other presentation skills tips and techniques on a PresentPerfectTM presentation skills training course.
